VINTON COUNTY, Ohio — Vinton County Prosecutor Jim Payne announced that charges against the man, who authorities say, caused Vinton County Schools to be closed have been filed.
Michael C. Murphy, 56, McArthur, has been charged with inducing panic. Authorities say Murphy contacted the sheriff’s office saying that drug drops and possible weapons would be at the school on Friday.
If convicted, Murphy could face up to 12 years in prison.
He was taken into custody and will be arraigned in Vinton County Court by Judge Jeffrey Griffith.
“Because of the seriousness of the charge,” said Payne, he will be recommending a $75,000 bond.
“The safety and well-being of all residents of Vinton County are important especially, our children.”
All school-related events will go on as scheduled, according to Superteindant Rick Brooks. Brooks released a recorded message to parents, and members of the community regarding the event.
