VINTON COUNTY, Ohio— Deputies with the Vinton County Sheriff’s Office, along with troopers from the Ohio Highway Patrol, were led on a wild backroad pursuit Monday evening.
According to initial reports, a call came in from a local gas station about a man who was impaired and driving erratically. They had claimed he was also doing drugs in the bathroom.
Officials say when deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, it fled at a high rate of speed. Troopers from Jackson and Ross County joined in the chase.
Speeds, troopers say, reached nearly 80 miles-per-hour as the vehicle raced through the hills of Vinton County. The suspects eventually ditched their vehicle and fled, according to reports. The female passenger was caught by law enforcement a short time later and transported to Holzer Medical Center for evaluation.
The male driver, authorities say, went into a nearby wooded area. A perimeter was set up around Kelley Road and Headley Road by troopers.
The only description given of the suspect was that he was wearing a dark-colored jacket and a pair of jeans. Troopers said they know his name and the man, who already had warrants, will receive more wanted charges as he remains on the run.
