WARSAW, Poland— On Saturday, US President Joe Biden called for the removal of Russian President Vladimir Putin from power.
In a speech delivered from Warsaw, Poland, President Biden called for the removal of Vladimir Putin from power. “For God’s sake, this man cannot stay in power,” said Biden. A remark, foreign policy experts say, marked a change in the United States’ stance against the Russian Federation.
During the live address, President Biden reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to NATO, warning that the U.S. would defend “every square inch of NATO territory.”
Earlier in the day on Saturday, President Biden met with Ukrainian refugees, telling those escaping the war, “We stand with you.”
The President’s speech comes on the heels of a Russian missile attack today near the city of Lviv.
According to the city’s mayor, at least two Russian missiles hit a fuel depot only miles from the city’s center. For many Ukrainians, Lviv has been looked at as a safe zone far from the constant Russian bombardment in cities like Kyiv, Odesa, and Mariupol.
Lviv stands less than 50 miles from the western Polish border.
