SANDUSKY COUNTY, Ohio — Four people tragically lost their lives yesterday in a nearly 50-car pileup along the Ohio Turnpike.

Authorities say the deadly crash occurred Friday afternoon along Interstate 80 between Route 53 and Route 4 in Sandusky County.

Sgt. Ryan Purpura of the Ohio Highway Patrol said in a social media post, “Four people lost their lives, and several more were injured.” Purpura went on to say, “This is a stark reminder of what could happen when you get behind the wheel and try to drive in bad weather conditions.”

The names of those killed or injured have not been released at this time. 

Officials with the patrol say the crash remains under investigation.
