LAUREL COUNTY, Kentucky —A Florida man is in Jail in Kentucky after troopers with the Kentucky State Police said he led them on a high-speed chase with a dead body in the back of his car.
It happened yesterday along I-75, officials said.
According to troopers, the multi-county chase began in Madison County, Kentucky near Richmond just southeast of Lexington. Troopers told local news sources that the pursuit began as a routine traffic stop. The driver, later identified as David Maurice Reed, 54, of St. Petersburg, Florida, took off from troopers.
During the chase, reports say, several police cruisers were struck by Reed. The chase continued along the busy interstate until it ended in Laurel County near the Daniel Boone National Forest.
Upon a search of the vehicle the victim, only described as a female by authorities, was found in a plastic tote. Kentucky news outlet Lex 18, said the woman had injuries to her face from what officials said was an “edged weapon.”
The man reportedly admitted to troopers that he had gotten into an altercation with the woman and said he had choked her.
The victim’s identity and the exact cause of death have yet to be released.
Reed was subsequently charged with several felonies including, murder, domestic violence, and abuse of a corpse. He remains in custody at the Laurel County Correctional Center.
