WASHINGTON, D.C. — The United States Department of Justice and eight other states have filed a lawsuit against the tech giant, Google, accusing the company of antitrust violations. The filings, submitted to federal court, claim that Google has “corrupted legitimate competition in the ad tech industry by engaging in a systematic campaign to seize control of the wide swath of higher-tech tools used by publishers, advertisers, and brokers, to facilitate digital advertising.” This is the second antitrust lawsuit against Google, with the first one being filed in 2020 by the U.S. government under the leadership of former President Donald Trump, citing similar allegations.
Congressional investigations into Big Tech companies, including Google, Apple, Facebook, and Amazon, have revealed that these companies have monopoly power. This has led to accusations from conservatives in Congress that these companies are infringing on “Freedom of Speech.”
As part of the lawsuit, the federal government is asking that Google be broken up to restore competition to the market. This lawsuit is a significant development in the ongoing scrutiny of Big Tech companies and their potential impact on competition and consumer choice.
