CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A volunteer firefighter was not injured when he and others crashed early Tuesday morning.
It happened on route 23 near route 159 at around 2 a.m.
The volunteer fireman was traveling on the highway when he hit a large piece of debris in his personal vehicle. The debris, troopers said, was caused from a pickup truck that hit black ice, which spun out and spiraled into a guardrail and was sitting in the median.
No one was seriously injured but the fireman’s vehicle had costly damage, including flattened tires. The driver of the pickup was not injured, either, but his truck suffered disabling damage.
Troopers said black ice caused from snow and sleet combined with below freezing temperatures were a factor.
