WILMINGTON, Ohio — Flooding concerns have returned to southern Ohio as forecasters with the National Weather Service warn of several rounds of wet weather expected to hit the area from Thursday through next week. According to the forecasters, some of the rain could be heavy at times, particularly on Friday night, bringing a threat of flash flooding.
There is a potential for river flooding through early next week, and portions of the area could receive over three inches of rainfall. The National Weather Service has urged residents to be cautious and reminded them that if they encounter flooded roadways, they should “turn around and don’t drown.”
Flash flooding is a serious concern in the United States and leads to numerous fatalities each year. In 2021, there were 58 flash flood-related deaths reported in the country, according to the NWS.
Residents in southern Ohio are advised to stay alert and monitor local weather reports for updates.
