NASHVILLE, Tennessee — Tragedy struck Nashville today as seven people, including three children and three adult staff members, were killed in a school shooting.
The shooting took place earlier today. Authorities say a female shooter in her teens used two assault rifles and a handgun. Three other children and two adults were wounded in the incident. The shooter, police say, entered the school through a side entrance and went from the first floor to the second, where she was eventually confronted by police.
Law enforcement officials said police engaged and killed her around 10:30 a.m.
Several schools in the Green Hills area were placed on lockdown out of an abundance of caution due to police activity in the area.
The Covenant School is a private Christian school for PreSchool through 6th grade.
Nashville Mayor John Cooper, Governor Bill Lee, Senator Marsha Blackburn, and several other leaders across Nashville issued statements in response to the horrific shooting.
