ROSS COUNTY, Ohio — Adena Health System, the region’s largest healthcare provider, is once again facing controversy as it grapples with multiple allegations of misconduct. The latest lawsuit, filed by the estate of Kami Wright, accuses Adena of providing negligent medical treatment that led to her death.
Wright died on October 19, 2021, due to an upper gastrointestinal hemorrhage caused by a gastric ulcer. The family’s court filings state that Wright received care from three different providers with Adena from July of 2020 until her death the following year. The family alleges that the doctors treating Wright provided inadequate medical care that ultimately led to her untimely death.
This wrongful death lawsuit is just the latest in a string of problems for Adena Health System. Several doctors have accused the healthcare provider of misconduct in recent years, raising concerns about patient safety and the quality of care at the facility.
The health system has faced criticism for its handling of COVID-19, including accusations of understaffing and a lack of personal protective equipment for healthcare workers. Adena’s reputation, many in the community say, has taken a hit due to these ongoing controversies, and the latest lawsuit only adds to the health system’s woes.
The family of Kami Wright is seeking damages in excess of $25,000 for wrongful death and loss of spousal consortium.
Adena Health System has yet to comment on the lawsuit, but it remains to be seen how the health system will respond to this latest challenge.
