CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Sixty local fans of the classic movie, “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” will be singing, “I’ve got a golden ticket…” while on their way to the movie theater on Sunday, December 17th at 7:30 p.m., where they will sit in a privately booked out theater watching the new musical movie, “Wonka.”
“Wonka” is an almost two-hour long, family movie that shows the life of young Willy Wonka, before becoming a famous candymaker. The release of the movie is on Friday, December 15th. Movie-goers may recognize the character, Young Willy Wonka, who is played by Timothee Chalamet. Chalamet, an A-list actor, filmed a movie in Chillicothe in 2021.
Grandpa Joe’s Candy Shop is making life a little sweeter this holiday season with a wild search for 60 hidden tickets in Yoctangee Park, on both sides of Water Street (between Ivy’s and Sole Fresh) and on both sides of Paint Street (between 50 West and The History Store).
In a Facebook post, Grandpa Joe’s Candy Shop announced their event with the following call to action.
“Dear People of the World: We’ve rented an entire theater to watch the new movie, “Wonka” with only our biggest fans.”
Participants are asked to only take one ticket, showing self control, unlike the selfish Augustus in “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”. One ticket is good for up to three seats. Tickets are hidden in plain sight, according to Grandpa Joe’s.
Hunting has been going on all day, even as early as 4:30 a.m. according to Facebook friends of the candy shop. Hunters are of all ages and are finding tickets even in the dark among the downtown holiday lights. If a ticket is not found, Grandpa Joe’s has a back-up plan. Participants can go shopping in the candy store and enter a drawing to win a ticket on Sunday, December 10th. The store has all the coolest “Wonka” candies and toys ready for your purchase that will make the day even more memorable.
If found, the ticket is to be claimed with the ticket code through Facebook Messenger where additional information will be provided. All tickets are to be redeemed by Sunday, December 10th by 10:00 p.m. Grandpa Joe’s Facebook page is keeping everyone up-to-date on how many tickets have been found.
Additional showtimes can be found at Danberry Cinema’s website www.danberry.com. Adult tickets are $9.00, children ages 3-12 are $6.50, and Matinee prices before 6:00 p.m. are $6.50.
