PICKAWAY COUNTY, Ohio — A high speed chase in Pickaway County ended after a brief standoff along route 23.
It happened at around 7:15 a.m. on Friday morning after a stolen car was spotted in Pickaway County. The Sheriff’s office and Highway Patrol engaged the stolen vehicle, whose driver was believed to have warrants.
The pursuit went up route 23 northbound into Franklin County. The vehicle was traveling at high speeds and was hit with spike strips on two occasions. The driver kept going on rims and the car started smoking.
Three vehicles were hit during the pursuit by the suspect. Police stopped in South Bloomfield with those passersby.
During one point, the driver crossed the median and into the opposite direction, into oncoming traffic. Once the pursuit reached closer to route 665, it came to a stop. The driver refused to get out of the car, but eventually surrendered.
The man was taken into custody and the highway was reopened.
