ATHENS COUNTY, Ohio — The Athens County Sheriff’s Office kept busy on Thursday, February 8th, responding to a variety of calls for service across the county. From assisting with locked car keys to apprehending individuals with warrants, deputies tackled tasks ranging from routine to urgent.
False Alarms and Runaway Juveniles:
The day began with a non-urgent call to a commercial location in The Plains, where an employee accidentally triggered a burglary alarm. Later, deputies searched for a runaway juvenile from Pickaway County, unfortunately without success.
Warrants Served and Public Safety:

Accidental Dials and Traffic Stops:
Open line 911 calls can sometimes cause concern, but in Coolville, a resident simply misdialed. Similarly, a female motorist in Guysville received assistance unlocking her car after locking her keys inside. While patrolling New Marshfield, a routine traffic stop led to the arrest of Joshua Young on an outstanding felony warrant.
Domestic Dispute and Fire Response:
Deputies intervened in a verbal dispute on Matheny Road, advising both parties to seek legal counsel and separate for the evening. Later, they provided assistance at the scene of a brush fire caused by a trash fire on Perry Ridge Road. An initial report was filed for further investigation by the environmental deputy.
Unfounded Complaint and Juvenile Issue:
Responding to a complaint on State Route 144, deputies were unable to locate the described individual or make contact at the reported location. Finally, a call regarding a juvenile issue in New Marshfield resulted in the guardian opting to keep the juvenile at home until the next day.
