CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The Adena Road Bridge in Chillicothe was left undamaged following a collision yesterday, according to a spokesperson for the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT).
The incident occurred on Thursday when a flatbed commercial vehicle traveling eastbound along Route 35 struck the bridge overpass with a large tank it was hauling. The impact caused the tank to come loose and roll down the busy highway. Troopers from the Ohio Highway Patrol stopped the driver near the Route 104/High Street exit. The driver then returned to the scene where a crane was used to place the tank back on the trailer.
The ODOT Press Secretary, Matt Bruning, told the Guardian that the bridge would have been closed if any significant damage had occurred. This incident comes after the bridge suffered significant damage in 2022 when another commercial vehicle collided with it, bending the steel support beams underneath.
The bridge remains open and operational, with no reported disruptions to traffic flow.
