CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A Chillicothe Police Department officer was spit on while responding to a report of a man behaving erratically in traffic on Wednesday.
The officer, according to his report, observed a man standing in the middle of Bridge St. at E 5th Street while vehicles were traveling nearby. Upon approaching the individual, later identified as Larry Bowman, the officer was met with an angry verbal barrage.
Bowman, the officers said, displayed signs of a possible mental health episode. When the officer informed Bowman he would be transported to Adena Regional Medical Center for treatment, Bowman became more agitated. He then spat at the officer, with some hitting the officer’s face. Bowman then struck the officer in the face with his fist as the officer attempted to place him in handcuffs.
Bowman was subsequently arrested and transported to the Ross County Jail on charges of obstructing official business. He is scheduled to appear in Chillicothe Municipal Court today, April 25, 2024.
