COLUMBUS, Ohio — Cody N. Beasley, 23, also known as “Drose,” and Kenan M. Lay, 21, also known as “Swerv,” were sentenced in U.S. District Court for their roles in aiding armed robberies targeting postal carriers.
Beasley was sentenced to 76 months in federal prison, while Lay received a 66-month sentence on April 19.
U.S. Attorney Kenneth L. Parker emphasized the seriousness of offenses against postal carriers, stating, “Even if you are not the person holding the gun or directly committing the robbery, we will hold you accountable for your role in the crime.”
According to court documents, Lay provided a 9mm handgun used in the armed robbery of an elderly female postal worker at a post office on West Broad Street on May 11, 2023. Lay received $100 for the use of his gun and was kept informed of the crime’s progress. The gun was used to pistol-whip the victim.
Beasley directed the armed robbery of a USPS letter carrier on April 4, 2023, in Dublin. He paid coconspirators $500 for the robbery and admitted to stealing a postal key in March 2023 in the Cleveland area. Beasley was detained during a traffic stop in Parma Heights, where officers found stolen mail and evidence of planning future robberies.
Beasley and Lay are among seven defendants charged in their cases, reflecting a broader trend of postal robbery-related charges in the Southern District of Ohio over the past two years.
