CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — New details have been released by the Chillicothe Police Department about a pursuit Monday that ended abruptly when the suspect crashed into a home on Chillicothe’s south end.
According to the Chillicothe Police Department, officers spotted a black Nissan driving the wrong way on East Fourth Street. The report reads that officers initiated a traffic stop. That’s when the driver fled at a high rate of speed. The chase reportedly went down South Sugar Street, then to East 7th Street and South Bridge.
Officers said that speeds during the chase reached over 70 mph as it wound through the city streets. The driver eventually lost control and crashed into 214 South Walnut Street, causing extensive damage to the front of the residence.
The driver, later identified as 22-year-old Thomas Burdette, reportedly fled on foot. Troopers with the Ohio Highway Patrol assisted in the search for Burdette. Officers allegedly recovered drug paraphernalia inside the crashed vehicle.
Officers later learned that the vehicle involved belonged to the suspect’s friend’s grandmother, who reportedly let her grandson borrow the vehicle earlier in the day. The grandson reportedly let Burdette use the vehicle and never returned it.
Despite the initial search, the suspect, Thomas Burdette, managed to evade immediate capture.
On Tuesday, Burdette was arrested by police. Details regarding his arrest have yet to be released.
