DUBLIN, Ireland and ALLEGAN, Michigan — Perrigo Company plc is voluntarily recalling 16,500 cans of Premium Infant Formula with Iron Milk-Based Powder due to excessive levels of Vitamin D. The recall affects three lots within one batch and impacts products shipped to H-E-B Grocery Company, LP in Texas, and CVS stores in multiple states, including Texas, Florida, California, South Carolina, Virginia, Indiana, Tennessee, New Jersey, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Missouri.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is working with Perrigo on the recall. The elevated Vitamin D levels, detected through routine testing, exceed the maximum permitted amount. While there have been no reported adverse events, the company notes that excessive Vitamin D could potentially cause health issues in a small subset of vulnerable infants, such as those with impaired renal function.
