CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — On October 12, 2024, the Chillicothe Police SWAT team executed a search and arrest warrant at a residence on Lillie Street in connection to a shooting incident that had occurred earlier in the day. The operation, which targeted 450 Lillie Street, led to the arrest of Kortland Bates without incident.
Upon arrival, the SWAT team, using loud sirens and public announcements, called for the occupants of the house to exit. After several announcements, both Kortland Bates and a female subject emerged from the residence with their hands up. They were detained on-site without resistance.
The SWAT team then entered the house to secure the premises for further investigation by detectives. No additional individuals or evidence were found inside. Kortland Bates was taken to the Ross County Jail and charged in connection with the shooting.
The Guardian has reached out to the Chillicothe Police Department in an effort to gather more information on the shooting. Department officials say the report is currently under review for possible redactions before its public release.
