CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The Ross County Commissioners have voted to rescind Resolution No. 044-24 after facing significant community outrage and a petition with over 4,000 signatures. The resolution, which sought to enforce the Residential Code of Ohio within the county, would have required permits for various residential projects, such as constructing sheds, adding rooms, or parking campers. It also proposed penalties for minor infractions like overgrown grass or unauthorized digging.
The resolution sparked widespread backlash, particularly from residents living outside city limits, who viewed the regulations as overly intrusive. Many expressed frustration that the decision was made by the commissioners without a public vote. One resident, Rich Moodey Jr., symbolized the opposition by posting a photo of plywood with a middle finger painted on it and the message, “Ross Co. Commissioners Fine This!”
Although the resolution has been officially revoked, some commissioners hinted at reinstating it if re-elected, according to attendees at the meeting. Residents continue to call for greater transparency in local government decisions.
