Three people have been arrested in the shooting of a state wildlife officer.
It happened Sunday night in Martinsville, Ohio around 4:30 p.m. on Macedonia Road at Martinsville Road; that is in Clinton County.
Officer Kevin Behr was responding to a poaching complaint. When he arrived, he met three men, who were hunting without a proper license. Brian Prickett with the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office said that’s when Behr was shot.
The three men have been arrested in connection with the shooting:
- Brian Liming, 49, of Xenia, was charged with a felony count of having a weapon under disability, no deer permit, and hunting without a license.
- Thomas Davis, 35, Jamestown, was charged with aiding and abetting a criminal act.
- Brian Achtermann, 36, Midland, was charged with no deer permit and hunting without a license.
Prickett did not say who fired the weapon that struck the officer, but ODNR confirmed that one of the three people arrested was the trigger-man. By 5 a.m. Monday, Davis and Achtermann had both bonded out of jail. Liming remains locked up on a $25,000 bond.
Behr was flown to University of Cincinnati. His condition is listed as serious, but stable condition.
“We would ask for everyone to keep Investigator Behr and his family in their prayers during this difficult time,” Prickett said.
Behr has been employed by ODNR for more than 25 years. Prickett said more charges are pending.
