A Chillicothe Police Officer went above and beyond after responding to a theft call on Wednesday.
Officer Josh Wright responded to Bath and Body Works on Bridge Street after a woman called police to report her daughter’s tablet had been stolen.
“Upon arrival, I met with (the mother) whom stated her daughter left her Kindle tablet in Bath and Body Works by accident, and when they went back it was gone,” Wright wrote in his report.
The mother told Wright that the tablet was extra-important because her daughter is diagnosed with autism and that the tablet played an important role in the child’s development. That’s when Wright took it upon himself to order the young-girl a new tablet and ship it to her out of his own pocket.
“I am proud of Officer Joshua Wright who observed a child in need and helped by purchasing the child a new tablet with his own money,” said Chillicothe Police Captain Michael Short. “Officer Wright’s actions is an example of his empathy and care for the well-being of the community he serves. I would like to add that this is nothing new in law enforcement and that officers all over the nation perform these types of good deeds on a daily basis. We have had officers purchase hotel rooms, bicycles, food, drinks, and more for people in need.”
Wright has been employed with Chillicothe Police Department since March 2020.
