A family’s dog died Sunday night after being shot Sunday morning in their own backyard in Pickaway County.
Kelsea Mess said that her two dogs — a 3-year-old black German Shepard mix and a bully breed mix that is about a year old — were outside using the bathroom in their Williamsport backyard on their leashes at around 9 a.m. this morning. That’s when, Mess says, she heard the smaller dog going crazy.
“Our younger pup started going crazy,” she told the Guardian. “I went out to get him to find our older dog laying on his side in the yard.” Mess said the puppy had blood on him from trying to clean the wound of his older sibling.
She said that the German Shepard had been shot with what they believe to be a .22 caliber. The dog was rushed to the local vet, where the family was waiting for him to be stabilized before the bullet can be removed. A GoFundMe was created to help with medical expenses. By 8 p.m., the dog, named Stryker, passed away.
So far, the Sheriff’s office doesn’t have any suspects.
