The Guardian has obtained video of a Pike County inmate being taken back to jail after he thought he could run from Pike County Sheriff Charles S. Reader.
According to the Sheriff, Ronald L. Howard, 21, was in the county on a court appearance from the Butler County Jail, where the Pike County Sheriff houses inmates. Howard ran away from the corrections officer who was transporting him while at the Pike County Sheriff’s office.
Sheriff Reader called for the assistance of the Ohio Highway Patrol, who sent more than 30 troopers to assist in the search. According to the Sheriff, deputies were brought in from “off-duty” to assist, as well. Deputies from Scioto, Ross, Adams, Highland, West Union K-9, ODNR, Waverly, and Piketon also assisted, as did the Denver Community Watch Group.
Howard was caught within a couple hours and is back behind bars. He will be charged with felony escape, according to the Sheriff.
