Chillicothe Police is hosting a meet-and-greet for their newest addition to the force.
K-9 “Rin” is a belgian malinois assigned to his handler, Officer Shane Simmons. Rin was acquired by the department with the help of “Little Blessings” non-profit.
According to Little Blessing, Rin will be filling the opening left in the CPD crew after K-9 Koby recently retired.
“Thanks to all of the fundraising, donations, and grants by those supporting Little Blessings to help the community. We are hoping to raise the money to purchase his safety vest, muzzle, leash, first aid kit, training reward (Kong) and his K9 cards,” said Kim Woods, the mother of 16-year-old Corrine Woods, who started the good-cause group.
The meet-and-greet with Rin will be held Thursday, June 27, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the McDonald’s on Bridge Street at Second Street. Rin has been working the streets for a little more than a week now.
According to Chief Keith Washburn, Corrine’s efforts has helped the police department purchase at least two K-9 units and get the dogs’ much needed equipment, including the “cages” that go into the backseat of the cruisers, equipped with cooling equipment to ensure the canines stay cool during warm summer days.
