Washington Court House native Travis Shaw has rejected a deal with the Milwaukee Brewers and has signed with the Toronto Blue Jays.
The deal with the Canadian team, which is reportedly worth $4 million (with an extra $675K of possible incentives) is for one year only, according to Yahoo! Sports.
SportsNet reported that in 2017, Shaw hit 31 home runs for the Milwaukee Brewers while posting an .862 OPS. The following year he hit 32 home runs with an .825 OPS. Over the course of those two seasons he generated 7.1 wins above replacement – more than Mike Moustakas or Nicholas Castellanos, SportsNet said.
Shaw, who grew up in Washington Court House and graduated from WCH Senior High is 29-years-old. He is married to his wife, Linda. His parents are Jeff and Julie Shaw, both of Washington Court House. Jeff is a retired Major League Baseball player, himself.
Travis previously played for the Boston Red Sox.
