Two people face charges after fleeing Greenfield police on Wednesday and wrecking a reportedly stolen vehicle during the pursuit.
According to Greenfield Police Chief Jeremiah Oyer, on Feb. 12 at approximately 3:43 p.m. Greenfield police officers observed a vehicle fail to use a turn signal. The vehicle matched the description of a reported stolen vehicle.
Officers initiated a traffic stop, but the vehicle began to flee, going east out of Greenfield on state route 28 into Ross County. The vehicle attempted to make a right-hand turn onto state route 41, lost control, and crashed into a ditch.
The rear passenger, later identified as Thomas Wyatt Pooler, 24, Bainbridge, was taken into custody at the scene. After a prolonged foot pursuit, the driver, later identified as Andrew Mitchell, 20, of Bainbridge, was apprehended by Greenfield officers. After a brief foot pursuit, Greenfield officers apprehended the front passenger, who was later identified as Raven Steele, 21, Chillicothe.
Ross County Sheriff’s Department deputies arrived on scene shortly after the subjects were apprehended and assisted with securing the scene.
The three subjects, and one Greenfield officer, were transported to the Adena Greenfield Medical Center by Paint Creek Fire and EMS. There, all were treated and released. The three subjects were transported back to the Greenfield Police Department.
Mitchell was charged with failure to comply, obstructing official business, and theft. Steele was charged with obstructing official business and possession of drug paraphernalia. Pooler was released with no charges. Mitchell and Steele were to appear in Highland County Court for arraignment on Friday. The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges are pending.
