The suspended Sheriff of Pike County has pleaded guilty to some of the many charges he is facing in connection to allegations of corruption in office.

Sheriff Charles S. Reader appeared in court on Thursday in Pike County with his attorney, Jim Bougler, of Chillicothe.

Reader, most known for the lead investigator behind Ohio’s biggest homicide investigation, the Rhoden massacre, was charged with 18 charges total, including theft in office.

In court on Thursday, the suspended Sheriff pleaded guilty to five of the charges against him. The remaining thirteen charges were dropped in exchange for the guilty pleas.

As a result of his guilty plea, he will leave the Pike County Sheriff’s Office and no longer be able to be a police officer in the state of Ohio. He is also disqualified from running for public office.

Reader faces up to nine years in prison when he is sentenced; that date has not been set, however, the one-time popular Sheriff could receive probation.
