An inmate was found not breathing in the Ross County Jail Friday evening.
It happened at around 4:15 p.m. at the county lockup at 28 N. Paint Street in Chillicothe.
The inmate’s name has not been released and the cause of his medical cardiac arrest has not been released.
EMS and firefighters were called to the jail for the inmate not breathing on the second floor of the county jail.
The man was being seen having CPR performed on him as he was loaded into the back of an ambulance and taken to the hospital.
The Ross County Jail has been plagued with issues under current Sheriff, George Lavender.
In February, 20-year-old Scott Coldren took his own life in his cell after he and inmates pleaded with correctional officers for mental health assistance, according to a federal lawsuit filed by Coldren’s mother in federal court.

In October, another male inmate hung himself in his cell, as well. And, over the summer, a woman was found not breathing in her cell and died.
Last year, bodycam video shows inmate James Stewart being beaten by a corrections officer in the jail. He was hospitalized for serious injuries.
In 2016, 35-year-old Stephanie Boyd was found dead in her cell from apparent cardiac arrest.
