Charles S. Reader

The former Pike County Sheriff sentenced to prison has received his “home” facility assignment.

Convicted felon Charles S. Reader will spend his time behind bars at the Toledo Correctional Facility in Lucas County. Reader was sentenced to 3.5 years in lockup after taking a plea deal related to theft and corruption charges last month.

The facility was opened in 2000, and houses approximately 750 maximum security inmates. Reader was assigned to the Toledo facility because of his status as a former law enforcement officer and its maximum security features. It is a 3.5 hour drive from his hometown of Waverly.

“Many factors are evaluated to determine an individual’s parent institution, including crime and sentence, medical and treatment needs, and other security considerations,” said state spokeswoman JoEllen Smith.

Notable inmates housed at the facility include convicted cop killer John Parsons.
