Obituary
Joseph Harmon Shields, 92, of Chillicothe, passed from this life on Sunday May 2, 2021 in Heartland of Chillicothe following a brief illness. He was born on June 5, 1928 in Chillicothe to the late Howard and Lulu (Martin) Shields. On June 5, 1955 he married Nancy Tyo, who survives.
Also surviving is his son; Joseph (Judy) Shields, Chillicothe, grandchildren; Tonya (Andy) Miller, Richmond Dale, Heather (Jake) Newman, Chillicothe, step grandson; Clifford Edwards, Gainsville, FL, great-grandchildren; Cheyenne and Chad, and a step great-grandson; Dockery.
Joseph was a graduate of Chillicothe High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army and the United States Air Force Reserve. He served on the board of the Ross County Historical Society for many years, he also served as an assistant Scout Master, and was an avid builder of historical boats and airplanes. Joseph was a draftsman for the Ohio Department of Transportation, for 40 years, retiring in 1993.
A graveside funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 7, 2021 in Greenlawn Cemetery with Rev. Cameron Caseman officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the Ross County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at the FAWCETT OLIVER GLASS AND PALMER FUNERAL HOME from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Masks and social distancing will be observed in the building.
