FAYETTE COUNTY, Ohio — A plane crash is being investigated in Fayette County.

Sheriff Vernon P. Stanforth said that it appears a small plane may have missed the runway when landing Thursday night. Firefighters and medics were called to the airport at around 7:30 p.m.

During the preliminary investigation, the pilot, identified as Justin T. Fry, 38, Cincinnati, was maneuvering the aircraft when the 1972 Piper PA 28-140 that he was piloting skidded off the runway, striking a small ditch and rotated, coming to rest in a grass area adjacent to runway.

Stanforth said that the pilot suffered minor injuries.

The Federal Aviation Administration has been contacted to conduct an investigation.
