CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A true-Hollywood horror movie is being filmed in Chillicothe this week.
“Bones and All” is directed by Luca Guadagnino and starring Timothée Chalamet, making it the first collaboration between Guadagnino and Chalamet since the Academy Award-nominated 2017 feature, “Call Me by Your Name.”
Dozens of production assistants were seen along Eastern Avenue near Watt Street, located at the old IGA grocery store. Production trucks started unpacking large pieces of film equipment and props at around 3 p.m. on Tuesday.
“This will be Guadagnino’s first film to be made on American soil and we’re honored to have it right here in our region,” said Kristen Schlotman, executive director of Film Cincinnati.

The production company has hired six Chillicothe police officers for security during filming, which will occur Tuesday and Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 1 a.m.; the officers are being paid $40 an hour, according to the city.
Adapted from the novel, “Bones & All” by Camille DeAngelis, the film is directed by Guadagnino and written by his longtime collaborator and Miami University alum David Kajganich, who worked with Guadagnino on “Suspiria” and “A Bigger Splash.”
The film is a story of first love between Maren, a young woman learning how to survive on the margins of society, and Lee, an intense and disenfranchised drifter, as they meet and join together for a thousand-mile odyssey which takes them through the back roads, hidden passages, and trap doors of Ronald Reagan’s America. But despite their best efforts, all roads lead back to their terrifying pasts and to a final stand, which will determine whether their love can survive their otherness.
The area surrounding Greenlawn Cemetery in Chillicothe is restricted with roadblocks during the next two days. While filming will take place in Chillicothe over the next two days, the movie is primarily being shot on location in the Cincinnati metro.

“The film will shoot through mid-July and put hundreds of locals to work, not to mention book thousands of hotel rooms while on location,” said Schlotman. “The impact will be significant.”
The film also stars Taylor Russell, Mark Rylance, André Holland, Jessica Harper, Michael Stuhlbarg, David Gorden-Green and Francesca Scorsese.
The film is fully financed by Italian companies: The Apartment Pictures (a Fremantle Company), Memo, 3 Marys, Tender Stories, Adler, Elafood, Elafilm, Manila, Serfis and Wise.
