WILMINGTON, Ohio — According to the National Weather Service, severe weather is expected to over-spread the Scioto Valley today. NWS wants to remind people of the difference between a weather watch and a weather warning.

A watch is issued when the risk of hazardous weather increases, but the exact time or location is unknown. A watch is the time for preparation and monitoring of current conditions, said NWS.

A weather warning, on the other hand, is issued when hazardous weather is actively occurring. According to the Storm Prediction Center, the issuance of a warning means there is a active threat to life and property.

An easy way to remember the two differences are: “keep a WATCH out for possible dangerous storms as they could happen,” and “There’s a WARNING that you are likely in danger.”

The National Weather Service encourage citizens to monitor today’s weather, and to stay prepared for rapidly changing conditions.
