WILMINGTON, Ohio — The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for Fayette, Pickaway, and Fairfield counties until 11 p.m.

According to NWS, storms including a few supercells will pose a risk for large hail, damaging wind, and a few tornadoes as they develop and move into Ohio this evening. Supercells are storms — usually, but not necessarily, thunderstorms — that contain updrafts that rotate about a vertical axis. Supercells often produce damaging wind, large hail, and tornadoes; most strong to violent tornadoes are associated with supercells.

A watch means that the area has the potential for tornadoes.
