CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — An active manhunt was underway Sunday afternoon in Ross County after a smuggling incident at a state prison.
Troopers, deputies, and police officers had a perimeter setup behind Chillicothe Correctional Institute at around 3:30 p.m.
Law enforcement told the Guardian that the highway patrol was searching for someone who attempted to throw contraband over the fence of the prison.
The type of contraband was not immediately released.
Several K-9 units from numerous departments were assisting in the search, including the Chillicothe Police and Pickaway County Sheriff’s office. A Department of Public Safety helicopter was called to the scene.
Troopers said citizens should avoid the area.
