JACKSON COUNTY, Ohio — One person is dead after a serious crash in Jackson.
Ohio Highway Patrol along with EMS responded to a two-vehicle crash on route 124. The accident occurred around 1:30 p.m., Friday.
According to the Highway Patrol, a garbage truck was stopped along route 124, when a 2006 Chrysler Town and Country struck the rear of the truck.
Law enforcement officials said the driver of the garbage truck, Stephen Lawson, 38, Otway, was transported to Holzer Medical Center with minor injuries. The driver of the Town and Country, Samuel Howell, 89, Wellston was also transported to Holzer where he later died from his injuries.
Ohio Department of Transportation said that route 124 is closed at Frank Smith Road.
Troopers with the patrol could not confirm when the highway would be opened.
Law enforcement asks motorists to avoid the area as crews work to clear the scene. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
