ROSS COUNTY, Ohio — Multiple law enforcement agencies were on the scene of a shooting on Hartwood Road in Ross County after a man opened fired at troopers.
According to initial reports, troopers with the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to a suspicious person walking along Hartwood Road. Once there, troopers say a man with a beard and wearing a bright colored shirt opened fire at them.
Troopers rushed for cover as the suspect ran into the woods. Deputies with the Ross County Sheriff’s office and officers from the Waverly Police Department were requested for backup. Troopers, according to 9-1-1 dispatch were pinned down awaiting backup to arrive.

The road was closed as a perimeter was set up to contain the armed individual, who was believed to be in a nearby wooded area.
A Highway Patrol helicopter and a canine unit from the Chillicothe Police were requested to the scene to help search the area.
Sergeant Bobby Brown with the patrol said that after several hours on the scene troopers weren’t able to locate the man. Brown said the shooting was still under investigation, but that perhaps the man shot at troopers “to scare them away.” The sergeant said no law enforcement officers were hurt.
EMS from Huntington Township was also placed on standby at the intersection of route 772 and Hartwood Road as a precaution.
