PICKAWAY COUNTY, Ohio — One person is dead and several others are critically injured in a Pickaway County crash.
According to Sheriff Matthew O. Haffey, emergency crews, and deputies with the Pickaway County Sheriff’s office responded to the accident on Sunday, around 8 p.m. along route 22 near Bolender Pontious Road.
Reports say a blue 2000 Toyota driven by Mikayla Cooper, 22, Circleville was traveling along Bolender Pontious Road when they failed to stop at a stop sign. Sheriff Haffey said the vehicle was then struck by a 2007 Honda minivan driven by Angela Fowler, 36, Lancaster.
Multiple medical helicopters were requested to the scene to transport the most critically injured. Fowler and a juvenile passenger were both airlifted to Columbus area hospitals in serious condition.
Coopers passenger, Kieshawn Hartley, 24, Columbus was pronounced dead at the scene by Pickaway County Coroner, Dr. John Ellis. Mikayla Cooper and back seat passenger Josiah Montgomery, 20, Circleville were also airlifted to Columbus.
The highway was closed for several hours as emergency crews worked to clear the scene.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
