ROSS COUNTY, Ohio — A local elected official and business owner is slated to take a plea deal after being charged with welfare fraud.
Charley A. Roman, of South Salem, is facing a fourth-degree felony count of theft. It is alleged in the indictment that he received medicaid and food stamps from July 2018 to December 2019 when he was not eligible for the assistance.
He is accused of benefiting more than $7,500, but less than $150,000.
Roman is the school board president for Greenfield Village Schools; he’s up for re-election this year. He is also the owner of a small urgent care practice in Greenfield and holds several nursing degrees and licenses.
In a plea deal, Roman will be given diversion with restitution in a court hearing scheduled for October 1. If he successfully completes the program, the charge will not be on his record.
Roman has retained Stephen Sesser from Benson and Sesser.
