ROSS COUNTY, Ohio — Ross County Sheriff Deputies say an accident with a deer led to the recovery of a stolen vehicle.
According to initial reports, deputies with the Sheriff’s Office were sent to the 7000 block of route 138 Saturday for an accident involving a deer.
Upon arrival, deputies said they found a tan-colored Honda CRV with damage to the vehicle’s front-end. The driver, identified as Brett Waller, said he had hit a deer and was waiting for friends to come with a trailer to tow the vehicle.
Officials say, after running the license plate, the vehicle came back stolen out of Columbus.
Waller told deputies that “he had purchased the Honda CRV from a friend.” Reports say he was unable to provide the title. Brett Waller, authorities say, was arrested and charged with two counts of receiving stolen property and was transported to the Ross County Jail.
A female passenger in the vehicle, Amanda Norman, initially gave law enforcement a fake name. The Ross County Sheriff’s Office stated that Norman had several outstanding warrants for her arrest. Norman reportedly fled the scene shortly after speaking with deputies.
No further details were available, and the case remains under investigation.
