CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — EMS responded to the Ross County Jail Monday evening around 5 p.m. for a possible drug overdose.

Overdoses are among a number of issues plaguing the local law complex as the number of fatalities continues to rise.

This weekend, the Guardian was first to break the news of another confirmed death at the jail. 21-year-old Malcolm Willis was serving a short sentence for an OVI-related conviction, who allegedly hung himself.

The Guardian spoke with the grandmother of Willis, who is demanding an investigation into his alleged suicide.

Before Willis’s death, Willis’s grandmother spoke with him. During their phone call, she said they said their prayers and that Willis was looking forward to a “good night’s sleep” and to having food for the first time in days.

His body was transported to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office pending an autopsy.

More than a dozen people have died within the walls of the county jail in the last 36 months, while dozens of others have overdosed.
