ROSS COUNTY, Ohio — A local Ross County church became the victim of catalytic converter thieves this week.
According to the Ross County Sheriff’s Office, deputies went to Lighthouse Baptist on Clinton Road on Saturday to investigate a theft complaint.
Upon arrival, deputies spoke with a church representative who stated that someone had cut the converters off three of their church buses.
The crime, according to the church, was caught on camera. On November 19, a silver pickup truck pulled into the church’s parking lot. The unknown occupants, reports say, got out of the vehicle and began cutting off the converters. Those individuals then left shortly after committing their crimes.
Officials say a report was taken of the incident and remains under investigation.
This case is just one of the hundreds of reported converter thefts in the Ross County area over the past year. Investigators say they have had difficulty solving these cases as area scrap yards continue to take catalytic converters without proper documentation.
