ROSS COUNTY, Ohio — According to reports, catalytic converter thieves targeted a local school in Ross County.
The Ross County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Pickaway-Ross Career and Technology Center Monday on a theft report.
School officials told law enforcement that several vehicles located on the property had their catalytic converters cut off in recent months.
Deputies spoke with the school principal, Josh Young, who said these thefts have been a recurring problem.
According to initial reports, the school was able to provide surveillance footage of the thieves. The suspect, deputies say, was driving a dark-colored SUV, possibly a Chevrolet Trailblazer or GMC Envoy. The footage, according to investigators, did not reveal the license plate number of the suspects’ vehicle.
The school requested that a report be filed for insurance purposes. This case, along with hundreds of other recent catalytic converter thefts, remains under investigation.
