CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Officers in Chillicothe said a homeless man used a fake $100 bill to tip a waitress at a local pizza joint.
The incident happened on January 18.
The customer had entered the pizza parlor and sat down without ordering anything. When an employee asked the man if he was ready to order the would-be customer said no and then left, police say. A short time later the phone at the pizza place rang from the business next door asking to order two pizzas. The voice on the phone was the same as the man who was inside the restaurant earlier.
The man on the phone reportedly told the waitress that if she would personally bring the pizzas to his car — which was outside — that he could give her a “fat tip.”
Police reported that the employee did as the customer asked in hopes of receiving a large tip. The driver of the pickup truck, officials say, handed the employee a $100 bill, took his two pizzas, and left. It wasn’t until the employee walked back inside that she found something “off” about the money she received. Upon closer inspection, the money had “motion picture use” on the fake currency.
Managers at the business told police that the incident was captured by surveillance footage.
The suspect in the case, identified as Francois Rouleau, Chillicothe, was cited for “theft by deception”. Rouleau is scheduled to be in court on January 28.
