JACKSON COUNTY, Ohio — Law enforcement in Jackson County arrested an alleged kidnapper on Monday.
According to a statement released by Jackson County Sheriff Tedd Frazier, Ryan Harmon, 21, was arrested after he allegedly kidnapped his 3-month-old infant child. The incident happened in Madison County.
The London Police Department said that Harmon had gotten into an altercation with the infant’s mother while traveling in a vehicle. Reports say that Harmon kicked the child’s mother out of the car and took off with the infant.
The mother informed law enforcement that Harmon would attempt suicide if approached by the police.
He was reportedly communicating via Facebook Messenger. That is when, police say, they were able to obtain his general location and then notified the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
Shortly before 1:30 a.m., a Jackson County deputy spotted the suspected vehicle entering Scioto Township.
Ryan Harmon was taken into custody without incident, Sheriff Frazier said. He is currently being held in the Jackson County Correctional Facility after being charged with abduction.
According to reports, the infant child was taken to Holzer Medical Center for evaluation.
Law enforcement officials say Harmon will be extradited to Madison County.
