CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Police said that the community should not be alarmed Wednesday if they hear talks of a mass casualty incident.

Law enforcement told the Guardian that local agencies were conducting a “live” training simulation in Chillicothe on Wednesday. The training was for a mass casualty incident — also known as a situation where multiple people are hurt.

“The radio traffic some have heard throughout the city pertaining to an active shooter is part of this training,” said assistant fire chief Noel Akers. “Through a miscommunication the radio traffic was broadcast in a frequency that could be heard by the general public. There is no emergency, this is only training. We are sorry for the miscommunication and any concerns it may have raised.“

Familiar locations may include the downtown area, schools, and densely populated neighborhoods.

Citizens should not be alarmed of the chatter or presence, police said.
