WASHINGTON, D.C. — This morning, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held a virtual address with members of Congress.
Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi introduced the Ukrainian President.
During the address, Zelensky told Congress that the destiny of the Ukrainian people is being decided. “We need you right now, “ said Zelensky. The Ukrainian President went on to call on Congress to enact a no-fly zone over Ukraine. “If this is too much to ask? If this is too much to ask, we have an alternative. You know the weapon systems we need. I need to protect our skies. I need your decision,” Zelensky told Congress.
The Ukrainian President asked for additional weapons and support from the United States during his virtual address and called upon American officials to increase the number of sanctions against the Russian Federation.
The Ukrainian leader played a heartfelt video for the members of Congress showing the horrific scenes of death and destruction across their country.
U.S. President Joe Biden, over the last three weeks, has been adamant in saying there will be no American troops in Ukraine and that a no-fly zone would put America in confrontation with Russia. A move the President said would start World War 3.
Vice President Kamala Harris following the address said, “Russia’s attack on Ukraine is unprovoked, unjustified, and unwarranted—which is why the United States has been bringing Allies and partners together to issue unprecedented sanctions against Russia. The result has Russian currency in a freefall. The Russian stock market is closed. The credit rating of Russia has now been designated as “junk.” We are resolute that we stand with the Ukrainian people and will continue to provide Ukraine with security assistance, humanitarian aid, and economic support. The United States, alongside our allies and partners, will continue to stand with the people of Ukraine.”
