Comedic legend Gilbert Gottfried has died, his family said, following a lengthy illness.
The family of Gottfried made the announcement Tuesday afternoon. According to the family, Gottfried died from recurrent ventricular tachycardia related to Myotonic Dystrophy type II.
The family released a statement on the late comedian’s Twitter account saying, “We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved Gilbert Gottfried after a long illness. In addition to being the most iconic voice in comedy, Gilbert was a wonderful husband, brother, friend and father to his two young children. Although today is a sad day for all of us, please keep laughing as loud as possible in Gilbert’s honor.”
Gilbert Gottfried is most remembered for his roles in “Beverly Hills Cop 2,” “Problem Child,” “The Aristocrats,” and as the Iago in the Disney classic, “Aladdin.”
Gottfried was 67.
