AUSTIN, Texas — Infamous conspiracy theorist Alex Jones has filed for bankruptcy in federal court. According to court filings, three companies owned by Jones including Infowars, Prison Planet, and IW Health have sought bankruptcy protection after the loss of defamation suits stemming from comments made regarding the 2012 Sandy Hook Massacre, calling the incident “a hoax”.

On Monday Jones took to Infowars to release a video statement regarding the fillings. According to Alex Jones, the bankruptcy filing is “designed to help pay all of his creditors in full”.

Legal counsel for the families of the Sandy Hook victims claims Jones is attempting to hide millions of dollars in money and assets before juries this year determine a monetary settlement.

During the nearly 30-minute-long video statement from Jones, the Infowars creator said that he has less than 3 million dollars in cash that are being used for product purchases and operations.

Jones faces multiple legal battles both in Texas and Connecticut.

Christopher Mattei, an attorney representing the families in the Connecticut suit said, “Jones is just delaying the inevitable. A public trial in which he will be held accountable for his profit-driven campaign of lies against the Sandy Hook families who have brought this lawsuit.”
